The Pacific Extension of the Milwaukee Road has continued to fascinate many in the decades since the line vanished. Now comes a unique look at the Extension through the camera of John W. Barriger III, a rail executive respected for his far-sighted visions of the railroad industry, and authored by noted rail historian Thornton Waite. Working for the federal government in the 1930s, Barriger rode across the Extension while extensively photographing the infrastructure and motive power of the longest electrified rail line built in the U.S. Using Barriger’s images, Waite guides the reader on a historic trip along a now-lost piece of American engineering. This title is a joint collaboration between South Platte Press and the Garbely Publishing Company.
