The 364-mile Midland Valley Railroad Co. served Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas for more than six decades prior to its 1964 merger with Missouri Pacific. Organized as a coal hauler, oil soon became its staple when the Oklahoma fields were discovered. This book looks at the history, operations, motive power and other facets of the Midland Valley, part of a flourishing carrier system that performed a vital service for its area.
